Macondo Literary Festival (www.macondolitfest.org )

For September 15-17, 2023, next festival on African histories and futures featured in fictional and non-fictional works. This festival, titled "Disrupting Home", will bring together, for the first time on the continent, authors from Arab, English, French, Italian and Portuguese/Spanish writing language zones in conversations.
The festival is intended as a platform for the exploration of home, belonging, identity and history among writers from all language zones of the African continent and their audiences present in Nairobi, making it a truly pan-African event.
The 2023 festival is the third edition of its kind: The inaugural Macondo Literary Festival in September 2019, titled "Histories, stories, worlds and words", was an event beyond our imagination and attracted about 600 visitors in total. Our second festival in 2022, "The Future of Memories", welcomed more than 1.000. Among our distinguished guests were 2021 Nobel Prize for Literature laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, novelist Nadifa Mohamed and Cameroonian scholar Patrice Nganang.

So far, the following authors confirmed their attendance: Aminatta Forna (Sierra Leone/ UK), Leila Aboulela (Sudan/ UK), Hemley Boum (Cameroon), Youssef Fadel (Morocco), Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor (Kenya), Kalaf Epalanga (Angola/ Germany), Masande Ntshanga (South Africa) , Ketty Nivyabandi (Burundi/ Canada) and Kossi Komla-Ebri (Togo/Italy) .

A medical doctor by profession, Kossi A. Komla-Ebri will be flying the Togolese flag at the #MacondoLitFest2023. He is the author of four publications; „Home“, „Neyla“ „EmbarRACEments: Daily Embarrassments in Black and White . . . and Color (Crossings)“. He is also a co-founder of El-Ghibli, an online magazine of migration literature.
